27 September 2013

The evening itself had a sense of satisfaction and calmness in it, an omen for what nature was to unfold for them. I guess it was a good omen.

After getting over with college Kavya was waiting for Krish to show up near by her hostel, they were to go for their promised smoking date. Although it didn’t turn out as a date Krish came over with his two other friends- Shivesh and Kaustob.

They met her in a market near her hostel. She was wearing a red t-shirt and blue Capri and he was wearing white t-shirt and blue jeans. No one was looking splendid but they both were soothing each other’s eyes. From there they walked to a nearby tobacco shop and bought their feast- the cigarettes. As she lit her stick his eyes was fixed on her to see how she looked while smoking. He must have never smoked with any girl before. Although he was the one who came to meet Kavya but his friends were doing all the talking. He was more of a silent kind of person. Kavya was total opposite to his character; she was alone attending all three of them.

WITHERED SMILE

“Can you see that smile over there, on his face, that’s my life line.”
Kavya was talking to herself sitting at a distance from Krish, where she can have enough for her sight of him and he would not even notice. It has now been a usual practice for her to embrace him from distance as this is all she has left with. Things have changed now; it’s not been always like this. But she never complains and why would she; she has accepted her fate as a result of her own misdeeds and not a day passes when she doesn’t wish to undo what she has done.
“That’s the same blue t-shirt he is wearing when we went on our second date to CP. That time we didn’t even know that was a date. He still looks the same he looked that day, it is only that now the person he is sitting with and embracing is not me anymore. I have lost that part of my life.”
Noticing every inch of him she gave satisfaction to her heart. That was the same place some years ago they met for the first time and it was not at all some usual meeting.
They met there for puffing cigarettes, yes! For the first time they met was for smoke. Three years back when Kavya and Krish were not even aware that anyone of them existed on this mother earth this place was reserved for them to meet and enter each other’s soul. But then how did they come to know each other?
They had nothing to tell like the common couples of that time would have like they did not meet in some friend’s party, they were not classmates, no neighbours, no facebook friends, not even from the same city or the city anyone of them would have ever visited before but they were destined to meet. They hooked up at a social networking app Wechat. At that time Krish used to live back in Greater Noida and Kavya in North Delhi. Then how did they catch up on Wechat? Does that cover such a huge area? No it doesn’t, but as I said they were destined to meet, Krish was crashing on one of his school friend’s apartment which happened to be in the same college as in Kavya and this is how they hooked up on Wechat.
There have been a lot of conversations between them before they met but this was the one what she always remembered.
Krish: “Do you have any bad habits?”
Kavya: “What is your definition of ‘Bad habits’?”
Krish: “I mean drinking and smoking.”
Kavya: “Yes, I drink and I smoke but I don’t consider them as my bad habits. This is my way of living my life and I like it so I do not consider as bad at all.”
Krish: “Yeah nice! I liked that reply.”
Kavya: “J
Krish: “I have never smoked with any girl. Would you mind meting for a smoke? ”
Kavya: “No. not at all a problem. I will tell you whenever I will be up for a smoke with you.”
Krish: “Yeah that would be great. I would be looking forward to it.”
And then they finally met at the very place for the very first time where he was now standing with his friends whom she doesn’t even know. Time has changed now as so is the circumstances.

Now whenever she comes to Delhi, she makes sure to visit that place not to smoke but to embrace the moments of her life that she could never relive.
